Lasting Love is not an "Event" it is a "Process - Dr. Sola Fola-Alade -

“The truth is that ‘Real love’ is not the Romantic high and Adrenaline and Dopamine rush we get on Valentine’s Day (although that is nice). Real and true love is built over years. It is created by the little acts of love and care we show daily to our spouse. It’s demonstrated in the nice compliment here, the little text there, a helpful hand, a generous act, time sacrificed to be together and a thoughtful gift. These are the “Little things that make a big difference in a marriage and create a sustained sense of in love-ness with your partner in your marriage’. Remember – true love is not a hundred meter dash, it is a marathon.”

Very salient reminder of what it really means to fall/stand in love.

Africa's Youth -

Interesting article on the future of Africa’s youth.  And even more interesting are the stated statistics:

“In less than 3 generations, 41% of the world’s youth will be African”

“By 2035, Africa’s labor force will be larger than China”

“By 2050, over 1/4 of the world’s labor force will be African”

“Africa spends more on secondary education than the global average”

If all these stats are indeed true, it makes you wonder what kind of opportunities abound for engaging that massive workforce to a greater good/goal/vision.

Outsmart Your Brain And Be More Innovative -

Very good read on being more innovative, aka creative:

“Your brain is wired to keep you alive”

“Innovation is about change….doing something different than you did previously….about trying something that you have not done before…”

Quick Summary:

  1.  The brain wants pains solved first.…innovation is not just about creating something new and different.  It should solve a problem that people have. 
  2. Expertise is the enemy of innovation…don’t stop with the obvious answers. Keep pushing until you are out of ideas and then still push forward. Ask “who else has solved a problem like this?”
  3.  The brain wants solutions, not problems…however, in the world of innovation, the “problem” is actually more important.Ask better questions.
  4. The brain craves commonality.  Work with people who are not like you.
  5. The brain sees what it believes.  Avoid getting wed to your ideas by getting someone to play devil’s advocate.  Refine your solution based on numerous perspectives, not just your own biases.
  6. Your brain only sees a fraction of reality…opportunities are limited to your frame of reference.   Sometimes you need to purposefully retrain the brain.  Do/read/learn about things that are unrelated to your work.  It opens up opportunities in places one would not have thought to look..
  7. The brain [at times] thinks too much.  Quiet that part of the brain through meditation, yoga, showering or any other relaxing activity.
