Africa's Youth:

Interesting article on the future of Africa’s youth. And even more interesting are the stated statistics:

“In less than 3 generations, 41% of the world’s youth will be African”

“By 2035, Africa’s labor force will be larger than China”

“By 2050, over 1/4 of the world’s labor force will be African”

“Africa spends more on secondary education than the global average”

If all these stats are indeed true, it makes you wonder what kind of opportunities abound for engaging that massive workforce to a greater good/goal/vision.

Outsmart Your Brain And Be More Innovative:

Very good read on being more innovative, aka creative:

“Your brain is wired to keep you alive”
“Innovation is about change….doing something different than you did previously….about trying something that you have not done before…”

Quick Summary:

The brain wants pains solved first.…innovation is not just about creating something new and different. It should solve a problem that people have.
Expertise is the enemy of innovation…don’t stop with the obvious answers. Keep pushing until you are out of ideas and then still push forward. Ask “who else has solved a problem like this?”
The brain wants solutions, not problems…however, in the world of innovation, the “problem” is actually more important.Ask better questions.
The brain craves commonality. Work with people who are not like you.
The brain sees what it believes. Avoid getting wed to your ideas by getting someone to play devil’s advocate. Refine your solution based on numerous perspectives, not just your own biases.
Your brain only sees a fraction of reality…opportunities are limited to your frame of reference. Sometimes you need to purposefully retrain the brain. Do/read/learn about things that are unrelated to your work. It opens up opportunities in places one would not have thought to look..
The brain [at times] thinks too much. Quiet that part of the brain through meditation, yoga, showering or any other relaxing activity.

There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real! So cherish them while they are with you.
When the door of happiness closes, another opens; but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don’t see the one which has been opened for us.
Don’t go for looks; they can deceive. Don’t go for wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one that makes your heart smile.
Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.
May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy.
